Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken Wings
When it comes to my kitchen, I’m totally adverse to change. I have things exactly where I want them, and I have my favorite appliances that I use on repeat when it comes to cooking for my family. I feel like Steve Jobs when it comes to my kitchen, you know how he always wore black because then he didn’t waste his brain’s energy on mundane things like what he was going to wear? I’m the same way in my kitchen. I routinely go back to the same appliances because I know how they work and I don’t have to waste time figuring out the nuances for a machine. It saves me time, which we all know, we don’t have a lot of these days.
Needless to say, things like the Instant Pot and Air Fryer seemed cool and also held no interest for me. I didn’t want to take the time to figure out how the thing was going to work along with figuring out the practicality of where I was going to store the thing.
But then Christmas in a pandemic hit, and I had NO idea what to buy my husband. So I bit the bullet and bought the Air Fryer predominately for my husband so he could join in the bragging game at work about the delicious steaks we made in the Air Fryer.
Ugh and this thing is the coolest thing ever. Granted it’s huge, so it’s stuck on the counter top for now because I have NO idea where to store it. Which isn’t really bothering me at this point because I’ve been using it so much.
Heads up, make sure to put your Air Fryer on trivets or something that is safe to get super hot because it gets super hot and (I’ve read) people are finding that the heat is causing their countertops to crack. You could even place it on your stove top when you’re using it, if your stove top has a conducive set up to set the Air Fryer on.
I do have to say it’s fun to be flexing my creative cooking muscles again and seeing what I can come up with that makes my whole family happy and is healthy.
This recipe is definitely one of them. It’s super easy and great for game day or fight night in our case, and really, who doesn’t love chicken wings? I know I do!
The key with this one is to let the chicken wings marinate for at least 30 minutes. Give time for the marinade time to soak into the wings and not only will they taste delicious, but the soy sauce gives the wings a nice little crunch.
I found that I didn’t need a glaze or BBQ sauce, but be sure to check the notes at the bottom if that’s something you want to check out!
air fryer teriyaki chicken wings
Prep time: 45 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Serves: 4 people
1 lb bone-in chicken wings, defrosted
Marinade:
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons dijon mustard
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tsp Sriracha *optional
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
1 garlic clove, mined
Salt and Pepper to taste
Combine all of your marinade ingredients in a large bowl. Add in the chicken wings, mix well until the marinade covers all the wings, cover and put in your fridge. Allow the wings to marinate for at least 20 minutes, but you could go as long as 2 hours if you’re prepping for Game Day.
When you’re ready to cook:
Spray the tray in the air fryer with non-stick spray and pre-heat at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Discard the marinade and put your chicken wings on the tray in a single layer, not touching, and cook for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through.
Serve while hot! Enjoy!
Notes:
*If you want a glaze or a sauce:
Keep your remaining marinade. Spray a small pot with non-stick spray, put in the remaining marinade and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Lower to a simmer and simmer until the sauce thickens, whisking occasionally.
*You can use chicken wings that are split at the joint with the tips removed, or not. Either work really well!
